Are You Dealing With Pain?

Vertigo (BPPV)

Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV) is a form of vertigo that causes intense dizziness with certain head movements, such as tilting the head or sitting up quickly. This occurs when small calcium crystals in the inner ear become dislodged, sending mixed signals to the brain and causing a spinning sensation.

TMJ Dysfunction (TMD)

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) affects the joint connecting the jawbone to the skull, making it painful or difficult to chew, speak, and open or close the mouth. Commonly caused by posture-related issues, muscle imbalances, or arthritis, TMD can lead to significant discomfort.

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Injuries

After a motor vehicle accident, injuries sustained can lead to ongoing issues such as whiplash, muscle strains, low back pain and general soreness from the trauma (seatbelt, airbags, impact).

Workplace (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board- WSIB) Injuries

Individuals who sustain an injury at work whether that be to their shoulder, knee, ankle, neck or low back are able to seek treatment paid for by WSIB. It is not your fault you have been injured but let us at Barraco Physiotherapy & Wellness help get you back to your previous level of function.

Pre-Surgical Rehabilitation

Pre-surgical rehabilitation, or “pre-hab,” focuses on building strength, flexibility, and endurance before surgery. Research shows that better muscle function and physical conditioning can positively impact recovery, especially for those undergoing joint replacements. Staying active before surgery also supports mental well-being, helping patients feel more prepared for the recovery journey ahead.

Concussion

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body, resulting in rapid movement of the brain within the skull. This injury can lead to a range of physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms, including headaches, dizziness, confusion, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. It’s essential to take concussions seriously, as they can have lasting
effects if not properly managed.

Diastasis Recti

Diastasis recti is a condition characterized by the separation of the abdominal muscles, leading to a wider gap between them than is typical. Normally, these muscles are connected by a band of tissue known as the linea alba. Increased intraabdominal pressure during events such as pregnancy can stretch and weaken this tissue, resulting in a greater space between the muscles.

Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is a common issue often linked to pelvic floor muscle weakness but can arise from various factors. There are different types of incontinence, including stress incontinence, urgency incontinence, mixed incontinence, and overactive bladder

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)

Pelvic girdle pain refers to musculoskeletal disorders of the pelvis, often resulting in discomfort in the low back and buttocks or the front of the pelvis. PGP can be triggered by factors such as pregnancy, trauma, arthritis, muscle weakness, or abnormal joint movement.

Postnatal Pain Relief

The postnatal period begins immediately after childbirth and is typically divided into three phases: the acute phase (lasting 24 hours post-delivery), the sub-acute phase (2-6 weeks post-delivery), and the late phase (6 weeks to 6 months post-delivery). During these phases, new mothers may experience pelvic pain, weakened pelvic floor muscles, pelvic floor neuropathy, and increased ligament elasticity.

Prenatal Pain Relief

Pregnant women often experience pelvic girdle pain (PGP) due to the additional weight of the baby, which places increased stress on the spine and pelvis. PGP encompasses a range of musculoskeletal disorders leading to pain in the low back, buttocks, or front of the pelvis.
